Congratulations on your new acquisition TyroSax. I have a question, I bought a mk1 recently which had to be overhauled unfortunately not by me. I've heard great things about Roo pads, metal resonators etc but my tech used pads with plastic resonators which he said were best for the model (metal distort apparently) - and that was for a hefty k. Appreciate if you would give me a heads up about the outcomes from different pads and resonators. Thanks.

I have a YAS-62 and it's a thing of beauty. I personally love it and it plays great for me.

Only problem right now with it is there is a small leak and it's on either the low C, C#, B or Bb key. Hopefully it'll get fix very soon. Very happy with the horn though.

Guys, I am buying a YAS-62 serial number 056927 but there is no "Made in Japan" below the serial number. Could you please explain me about "Made in Japan" incription? I am seeing a lot of YAS-62 without "Made in Japan" and as everybody know about a lot of replica now a day.

The point is: Is there original YAS-62 horn without "Made in Japan" below serial number?

Tks

Yes. Not all of them say that.

YTS 62 has been my main tenor for 15 years. Love it.
However, I just bought a silver-plated YBS 62S a few months ago and it has some intonation issues.
Hi A is flat (even when I squeeze it up as much as possible)
The palm keys are a tad flat, even when squeezing up
Middle D is little sharp.
Low Bb and low A are little sharp.
I had to raise or lower many key heights to get other notes to play in tune.
I've played bari for 15 years.
My YTS 62 played perfectly right out of the box...still does.
I was disappointed that this YBS 62S didn't play as well.
I'm even considering selling it (for $6,500 USD)

Also, I was surprised that a clip-on mic left 2 little dents on the rim of the bell, which it never did on my Keilwerth ST-90.
Has any other YBS 62 owners had any problems like this ?

Bought a beautifull yss-62r from a SOTW member. It's a 08xx serial at it is in beautiful condition.
I am a newby on soprano but it is easy to play with a beautiful tone with a ppt mouthpiece.
Really enjoying it.

Present! I have a 054,xxx Tenor and a 046,xxx Alto (both MK1) I just received in the mail a few days ago. They both sing like nobody's business. The alto I recently purchased almost looks like it lived in the closet for a time, but I have to say they both have a unique tone. :)

JimmyVon, my MK1 62 Tenor has soft brass like that. When I first bought it, I was struggling to fit one of my mouthpieces on it, and I somehow bent the neck down with little effort. It has been repaired since then, but I definitely throw on mouthpieces prior to assembling the neck to the horn. Scary!

Hi, I am a brand new owner of a YTS-62 tenor which I just made an offer for at the local store yesterday. Assuming they accept my offer, I'll be bringing it home tonight or tomorrow. This is my first ever sax, but I did play clarinet many many years ago. I decided to try to take up sax after years of playing guitar and pretending I understand piano.

Congrats on your purchase. I just found this thread. I have two Yamaha 62's. A purple logo alto and a purple logo tenor. Apparently there's some frenzy for "vintage" Yamahas? Didn't have enough money to buy the YSS-62 :( so bought the 675. Saving up for the future though!

Been playing my YAS 62 for 15 years now. It's lacquered. Always wanted a silver one. My Tenor Custom Z is black and my soprano lacquered. Two questions. Big difference in altos between custom Z and 62? How about from 62 to 62III? My local ship has a 62III do I can check it out for myself, but not an 82Z.

Well waiting on my new Yas62 purple logo coming. Cant wait. This will be my 4th I've owned over the years. 1st purple logo alto I had many years ago when I was young was brand new and got stolen, arghhhhhh. Looking forward to getting this baby.

I played a YAS62 purple logo since I was 14, but switched to a Keilwerth SX90R a couple of years ago, which I found to have a fatter sound - the 62 could be a bit shrill at times for me. I kept the 62 around and picked it up the other day just for fun, and was very tempted to switch back to it for its superior action! I can simply play faster on it than the oversized SX90R keywork.

I've decided to give it an overhaul and see what I think then. Currently it has Noyek resonators, which might be making it too edgy for me. I've ordered a set of black Saxgourmet pads with gold domed metal resonators, and black felts. If nothing else, it will look cool!

M1, F1 neck might help

Excellent YSS62 in silverplating. Plays great, good intonation, mellow tone in combination with modern keywork. One of the finest sopranos I 've ever played.

This is my 3rd over the years purple logo 62 alto I owned, there still the best looking alto out there for me and I just love them. I don't really dig playing much alto but back on a 62 i'm back enjoying it. I had a lot of top great altos but the old 62's are the ones still.

Just bought a 1981 vintage tenor...probably the best tenor I've yet played.

My last tenor was a balanced action. Before that a succession of vi's. I got the 62 for a show this summer calling for an additional double. Very impressed by intonation, tone and sound out of the box. Copy of the vi but imho outplays it.
