Bought a YAS-62 serial number 008XXX from the original owner who is retiring from playing. I think it had been sitting in the closet quite a while and he wanted the horn to be played. I asked Yamaha the age and they could only guess "early 80s". That's fitting since my car is also from the early 80s and also made in Japan.

Back to the sax, I didn't realize until my tech told me that it came with a sought after mouthpiece, the Selmer Soloist D short shank which I haven't even tried because my wife insists our family quartet all play on Raschers.

Just bought a YTS62 purple logo vintage tenor, arrived yesterday from ebay seller in japan and it's a wonderful horn, mint condition. On cloud 9, it's almost as good as the day after I married my wife (also from Japan)... intonation, playability, sound is superb. I'd played my YAS62 which I still have and play for 30+ years, it took many months of checking ebay auctions to find a comparable YTS62.... playing w/my otto link stm 6. I have no desire for a mk vi, 62s are lifetime horns, so great.

I still have the YAS-62S I bought 25 years ago and I never thought about to sell it. This is an awesome saxophone. I also bought a YTS-62 (red lining case and Selmer style low Bb/C# keys) in 2000, very nice saxophone also. What surprised me about the YTS-62 was the Yamaha customer service. A month or two after the guarantee time expired I noticed a bit of oxidation below lacquer in one place (5mm diameter), I went to the music store to show them the saxophone and to ask them if that oxidation would increase in the future, thay asked me to leave the sax. A couple days later they called me to say I could pick a new one! I was more than happy, however the new YTS-62 had intonation issues (i.e. B3 was to flat), after switching necks with a couple YTS-62 players I realized the neck was defective. I didn't want to abuse from the local dealer and I send an e-mail to Yamaha with the neck story. A week later I received a phone call from the Yamaha distributor in my country inviting me to go to their office for a neck replacement. This story convinced me they have a outstanding customer service.

I have just acquired a new (old stock) YAS-62 (that's what the inscription on the body says). It has the G1 neck. Keys seem to mother-of-pearl. The case is solid, and it looks a bit like my YTS-82Z case, but the badge is silver-coloured. The instrument came from Japan.

According to Yamaha, it was made in 2005. According to various posts, the YAS-62II appeared in 2003. Were the two models produced in parallel? Whatever it is, there is probably a simple explanation for this. In any case, this alto is a pleasure to play.

Addition: it is definitely a 62II.

Does anyone have the new 62iii in vintage bronze finish? It looks amazing in my opinion.

I got my purple logo YAS62 alto new back in 1989 and will probably never sell it. Had it completely overhauled with black roo pads last year and it's playing like new again. Love this horn.

Picked up a very early YTS-62 a couple months ago and it's now my main instrument.

Interestingly, both my teacher, who plays an old Conn, and my tech, who is a die-hard Selmer guy, love this horn.

Hi, I bought YTS 62 around 2 weeks ago. It have really beautiful Gold Patina and I love it. I post some images here : http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?240022-Help-me-identify-what-Model-and-Year-this-YTS-62

I play saxophone at December 2015, starting with Taiwan Manufacture Alto and moved to Tenor around 2 months ago with Taiwan Manufaceture Saxophone also called Maxtone. Well I must said that this saxophone have bad quality build. The keywork had few times adjusted just in 1 month, and the keyguard almost fall off because it's bended several times (maybe because it's too big for at first time so I ussually touch that keyguard especially C and C Sharp)

There is positive think about this saxophone that I learn how to fix it by self. I learn how to fix small problem on saxophone, adjusting using lamp, and many things for make sure I play good saxophone.

After moved to YTS 62, I know how it feels good saxophone, cherrs hehehe... I can easily in tune and for this 2 weeks I don't need any adjustment and the roo pad installed really smooth. It's lighter than maxtone and Berg Larsen 105/0/SMS I had can make this Saxophone screaming so Loud and for me it's also play really good in low tone.

Hi, I just bought a YTS-62 purple logo for my son, in near mint condition. Was initially intending to buy a cheap used horn to later upgrade to a nicer one if tenor sticks with him (he's been playing alto, but starting tenor in his jazz band), but after visiting a local seller with many different vintages of Yamahas to try out (23, 26, 32, 61, 62x2) among other modern used horns, he liked the 62 purple and the 62 engraved best (of course he likes the most expensive two of the 7 horns he tried).. I liked the 62 purple sound better, so haggled the price down to get it within our stretch budget and brought it just home.

serial number is 014xxx. Any idea when it was manufactured? unlike other manufacturers, I guess yamaha is horrible with continuity with SN... current guestimate is early to mid '80s?

Yamaha YTS-62 purple label, SN 021XXX

This is my first tenor (after 20 years playing my Selmer SAII, alto and soprano).

I bought it becouse my first jazz teacher (Pierre Leon, Alicante, Spain) had one, and sounded superb.

1100€ plus shipping! A true bargain for this horn. I'm playing it 9 months ago, and diggin it.

I still want another SAII tenor, tough, just becouse I already have the alto and soprano, but the 62 its certanly a keeper.

I will do my best to avoid having to sell the 62 to buy my third Selmer, someday. At least for make a face to face comparison for a few months, but I'll probably try to keep both, becouse this purple 62 has a strong character. Nicely balanced trough all register, incredibly good intonation, crisp lows, easy altissimo, and above all, a strong authoritarian personality that pleasantly surprised even some of my friends, mark VI owners, who have heard and have played a while with it.

The YTS-62 purple label is probably the best bang for buck used horn you can buy nowadays. Seriously guys, this horn is an amazing piece of japanese engineering.

I love my yts62 purple logo tenor; with a otto link stm 6 or 8 it plays great

tip: I like the yamaha brand swabs for cleaning, they're large green sheets of some material.
I found out the hard way (after using my body swab in the neck, and getting it stuck; had to
twist it out taking 20 minutes) to get both a smaller yamaha neck swab as well as body one.

I bought mine from this guy in japan, highly recommend: http://www.ebay.com/usr/akama-akama
I was very nervous about spending nearly $2k to order a vintage horn from overseas, thankfully it worked out great.

my biggest challenge is getting comfortable w/high notes, my left hand (and embouchure) struggle with high d+
(any tips?) .... gotta love the 62 -- see me play it in recent videos at top of site in my sig

Now able to join the 62 club, picked up a 002*** serial number YTS62. Still has the purple Yamaha Japan logo on the bell.
Any ideas on its year of manufacture ?
If your horn was originally sold outside of North America, then you might have to contact Yamaha Europe/UK directly. On the other hand, other SOTW folks have got good info from BandAndOrchestra@yamaha.com but they seem to only track horns sold in the States (under the "Yamaha Corporation of America" umbrella).

I have a 1980s YAS-62S (purchased at Crowthers of Canterbury, incidentally!) but they couldn't find any data on it.

As of today I can join the club with a YTS 62 (rubbed off) purple logo. 0043xx from 1980. Fully overhauled and with the original case that still looks almost new, I had a very nice day testing it in the shop today and having some minor adjustments done. Great shop, great and very helpfull owner, great horn that I'm going to enjoy a lot.
One pic for now or didn't happen.....
