nice that you like that piece. I had similar impressions with my one: Very stable intonation and soundwise and it doesn't get too bright in the upper register. I've owned my one for years (it came with the horn) and never used it but recently I gave it a slight reface and now it's a very nice player. I use it as a backup at the moment as it's not the tip opening that I prefer but I've used it in concerts and was quite happy with it.

yes great mpc but will not work on most vintage sopranos as it will tune flat. awesume on newer horns

 

I have a Yani HR 9. With a 2 reed it cranks on my Mk 6, which tends to the oboe sound. I used to play sop quite a bit, not so much now.

 

I have Yana S-800 soprano from the 80s. Is this the mouthpiece these horns came with?
I find it quite solid, but nothing special.

 

Can't say how old is mine as I bought it used. It was pretty cheap and plays well so I think it was a good deal.

 

Great mouthpiece especially friendly for beginner. I have the HR 5 that comes with my Yany sop. Once I tried the 7 but found it much more resistant than 5.

I play both a 5 and Yanagisawa 7 and like both quite a lot. I've tried a number of other pieces, including one custom made model, but keep going back to these. Last year I bought a new Yanagisawa SW01, which came with the new classical Yani mouthpice. I found this to be a little darker and not as suitable for jazz.

 

The Yany HR 5 is not my regular soprano mouthpiece (that would be the Selmer Concept), but it's a good alternative piece for me because it has a broader, more open sound than my classical soprano mouthpieces. I sometimes use it when I want a more jazzy sound, e.g., when playing a sax quartet arrangement of Glen Miller tunes. Very nice for that purpose.

 

the original mpc looked a lot like the jody jazz HR model

 

I had one that was given to me over a decade ago (I think it was a vintage one). I wasn't playing the soprano I had so I sold it but kept the MP. I eventually gave it away.. Here I am a decade later and after using an otto link stm for a few years, decided to buy another one of these yani pieces.. Man... It's a great piece! I find that up high it doesn't thin out and the intonation is really good. I am enjoying this piece.. I don't think I will change for a long time.

 

Yany HR 5 is one of the best piece for beginner. Surprisingly the HR 7 does not feel equivalent good.
