I was thinking: Why let players of MK6, Super 20, and other great horns have all the fun with their clubs?

So, let's start one with Yamaha's legendary horn, the original 62 Series (mostly recognized with a purple, silkscreened Yami logo).

Mine is a YSS-62. What have you got?

Feel free to list the year (if you know) your horn was made and what you like, or don't, about it.

Well only my Alto is a silkscreened. It's vintage from 1986 and I am the only owner. Played it all through Jazz band in HS. I've let several pros play it and about 50% of them offer to buy it on the spot. The problem is it plays too well to ever part with. Even if I bought an 82z or a MKVI I would still keep it. My dad sacrificed to buy it for me, something even at the time I appreciated. Now that I am older and he is gone it means even more to me.

lmao guys i wanna get my hands on a yas 62.
could u help by sending anyone who wants to sell
my way cause i need a horn for a good price:)!!!
You sometimes see the silkscreened 62's come up for sale but not nearly as often as the engraved 62's. Then of course there are a bunch of 62II out there new and used. I might call about a pristine 62 silkscreened soprano but I really don't like soprano. But it is pristine for a 20 plus yr old horn.

Playitfunky -

I feel honored that you bestowed upon me the grace of being the chairman of the 62 (not 62II) club!

You - or anyone else in this community - are welcome to try my 62 sop out if you find yourself in Jakarta.

Like you, it will be difficult for me to part with this horn: It used to belong to Indonesia's finest sax player ever. After he died, it kept sitting in a closet. Upon getting to know this late player's widow a few years ago, I have got a chance to play this particular, minty (98% of original lacquer and purple logo are intact).

I fell in love with it, of course! But she, the widow, would not want to sell it. After one year of persuasion, she agreed to trade it for my brand-new 475sop with - of course - some more dough on top of it.

Another cool thing about this horn is: Kenny Garrett played it when he came to Indonesia and stayed with its owner.

I know I may sell this horn if I ever have or want to, but I will try as hard as I can to keep it.

What's the differences between the 62IIs and the 62s?
Apart from my 62II, I've only played a new-ish 62, probably 10-12 years old. My 62II was more open, better response, therefore, I could get a much better tone. I put that down to the G1 neck though, which didn't fit on the 62.

The 62II is a remake of the original 62, which was made in the 80's-90's. I have not played a 62II yet to say anything about it, but if I had a choice between the two, I would go with the 62.

On a related note, I have a confession to make: I was offered too good a deal on my 62 sop and sold it to my student. (I need the money.) So, you can dismember me; otherwise, I'd like to stay a member of this club.
