Hi,
my daughter is a senior looking for a home in the fall of 08 ! She is a four year, 4.0 gpa,has been drum major the last 2 seasons, and has recently advanced to the state level of competition (ATSSB) on the tenor sax. She has auditioned for merit at Southwestern Univ recently.
My question is ,are there other non school affiliated scholarships out there to apply for? She plays alto, tenor and soprano.
all help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
a band dad in southeast texas!

Howdy (really a common greeting for me, though I'm from Michigan)!

While I think most saxophone or music scholarships are school awarded, there may be more out there for your daughter than you both realize. I've heard good things about www.fastweb.com - a search engine for scholarship funds. A friend of mine found a scholarship just for being left-handed, for instance. I think it's worth a look, even though your daughter sounds like she will be in great school scholarship shape.

I would also reccomend Fastweb if your daughter doesn't mind writing countless essays. There is a lot of stuff out there if you can win the essay contests.

I, too, recommend fastweb. I got a couple scholarships from them that were very easy to attain. I got one just b/c I lived in the Washington DC area ... another one b/c I played a musical instrument (and they only wanted an essay ... no audition tape needed ... funny how that one worked). I got a total of like 3 or 4 different scholarships from that website. Pretty useful if you ask me :)
