Hi, can anyone recommend a good repair shop or technician in the San Diego, CA area? Thank you.

Hey, I moved out here in January but had a chance to travel back east about the same time I needed some repair on my horn so I havent had any actual work done in San Diego, but numerous times I've had the Windsmith recommended to me. University and 30th (North Park). Also, the trumpet player from TOP lives here and he supposedly uses Musicraft. I'm not sure of the address, but i'm sure you could find it. Good luck!

Of the two suggestions, I've had better luck with Musicraft in the Kearney Mesa area. Windsmith worked on a Yani alto I had several years ago and just made things worse each time I took it back. What really annoyed me was each time they claimed the horn was perfect and it was far from it. Ther's a good tech at a music store off Escondido in the Vista area.

I don't know about the shops in SD city, but I can vouch for Horn Improvement. You should check them out. Jeff worked on my well-used Zephyr Special, and brought it back to life. A very thorough and quality job. Jeff took the care and had the expertise to see and correct things that a previous tech did not. It can be frustrating finding a really quality tech around here. Horn Improvement is really good: my Zephyr has been reborn, and I can't see going anywhere else around here, even though I have to drive down from L.A. County.
