Take a look at this link and click where it says "click here". Watch the video. If at first a snag comes up that states close because the server is busy, close it and the video will start upon clicking the link a second time.

What kind of mouthpeice is he playing?

OOlufoks, the difference in sound is not just do to the mic, it's all the reverb that's added when you play through a mic into a soundboard, as in PA or recording.

I used to see Richard in the 80s when his solo career was just taking off. He played for free on Sunday afternoons in a bar in Manhattan Beach (LA suburb). My wife and I were there most Sundays since we didn't have a lot of money at the time, and he always had good up and coming musicians in his band. At that time he was playing a Strathon, the plastic mouthpiece with an adjustable baffle. Obviously that's not what he's playing in that video, I just wanted to add onto the mouthpiece history started by Joe Jazz.

The first time I saw Richard was many years ago at a place by the water in St. Petersburg. There were perhaps two dozen people there at most. Richard called us "a small but mighty crowd". It was funny because I had seen him walking around earlier wearing a shirt from the restaurant there and I told my wife "look, Richard Elliot is working here as a waiter!". He put on a great show despite the lousy turnout, and we have been fans ever since.....:)

JOEJAZZ, I thought the horn is an LA sax horn but is there really a mouthpiece that's called an LA sax mpc?

What seems even more interesting as far as I know Richard never seem to have any formal training in a university setting. Note in the video clip he refers to "grad school" which was basically his Motown experience.

...yes, he does sound different without all the other electronic "hoopla aaa".

Someone stated they saw Richard in concert recently. According to him, Richard admitted to playing a customized Dukoff!! Seriously, listen to the tone on Metro Blue. It's much different from his previous recordings!!

Richard used to play a Strathon and a YTS61, when all his gear was stolen, LA Sax, who was endorsing him outfitted him with new stuff, including the LA Sax mpc... WW&BW carried them the HR were faced by Ralph Morgan, the metal were apparently very good players, I missed getting one on closeout.

if he is anything like players here he probably changes set ups on occasion
