Clarinet, but this guy really outdoes them all. We once did a gig as lead in for him and his band, and we all stood in total amazement afterwards. You don't get the full sense of how great he is from the clip. Above all, this feels like real jazz to me. They would have tunes go on for much longer than here.

 

Wow. Incredible, and a really interesting use of voicing/tongue position to drastically change his tone. Sounds like a whole different horn at parts.

I'm a skeptic based on the absence of other musicians in the picture and the sound which sounds like it was miked close to the horn. I think its processed.

 

Yeah, I don't think we're hearing the sound he's playing live in the vids I linked. However, you can see him hitting the fingerings which leads me to believe he IS playing. In any case, it doesn't matter... he (or someone) did it in the studio, and that's just as amazing.

well, this is the typical Romanian sound and the speed is of the essence in this style of music
this is a tarogato maker, and virtuoso, Nicolae Sava, demonstrating his products at a street market ( soprano tarogato: one with clarinet mechanics and the other with soprano sax mechanics he plays ocarina in the second video)

Despite the rustic setting of this video, I have met Nicolae Sava twice at the Frankfurt Musikmesse and his products weren't exactly cheap....... although I am pretty sure that the price in Romania is probably not the same that he charges for sales abroad

 

I've been looking, and it looks like a decent horn goes between 3 and 5 grand. Out of budget for now...

 

that's in line with what I remember. I thought he wanted 3500€ for it .......

 

Wedding music? Might as well give the groom an idea of what he's in for.
To me, it sounds ironically like the musical equivalent of "Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag". :faceinpalm:
