We just recorded one demo track, a tune written by the guitarist, and I was just wondering what people thought. I'm a little flat, and my solo is not that great, but I i figured I'd show you guys. Here's a link to download the mp3:

Just curious, but have you laid out a set of chords to actually go off of on the solo? I learned (the hard way) that one can transcribe all day, but if the lick isn't in the right key, it just doesnt work.

I would suggest that you look at the guitar and keyboard parts for a chord progression, then transpose that to your tenor. After you did that, you could write an outline of chords that follow a half step up or down into the next measure (for example, in Cminor, there is C, Eb, G, Bb, and D; if the next measure was Fminor, [F, Ab, C, Eb, G] you could mess around with Bb in Cmi7 and then transfer on over to Fmi7 on C-it would sound like an actual chord change if you move in half steps).

BTW, penatonic scales can also work over chord changes; just make sure you move in half steps on the chords in the song.

I liked it. Nice solo, but I do have one suggestion that you may like or dislike. But I thought it might be nice to hear some change from the typical beat that goes on throughout the entire piece. There was some texture change so it was nice to hear that. But like I said, I did like it and your solo sounded pretty good. Nice job

I really like the composition. Great funky feel. Sounds like your just getting started with it. I didn't get much feeling out of the solos other than they were notes in the right scale/key. Maybe each soloist needs to think about how they feel about this tune?

Would love to hear how it sounds after you've all played it a few times more. Sounds like something you could have a lot of fun with in your solo.

Good stuff!

Yeah I was thinking of going crazy on harmonic minor. I need to shed this tune i think.

That is a very decent Smooth Jazz composition bordering on fusion. I have heard stuff on the radio that really wasn't nearly that well conceived. Bravo! Tremendous amount of improvement from last year in every area.
