🎷 Discover MARCA UNIC – The Hybrid Reed Revolution

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share some info about a new generation of reeds that might interest many of you: MARCA UNIC – the result of over 10 years of R&D from the French reed maker MARCA, active since 1957.

Unlike traditional cane or fully synthetic reeds, UNIC is a true hybrid:
👉 It uses real French cane, reinforced with synthetic fibers inside the reed body.
👉 This structure delivers the sound and feel of cane, with the durability and consistency of synthetics.

🎯 What you get with MARCA UNIC:

  • Excellent stability in all conditions (humidity, temperature, travel…)
  • Much longer lifespan than regular reeds (up to 6 months for many players!)
  • Same response and flexibility as a well-balanced natural reed
  • Easy to adjust, clip, or sand like any cane reed

It’s available in 4 models depending on your playing style:
  • Classic (rich, warm tone)
  • Elite (focused, flexible, ideal for soloists)
  • Jazz (brilliant, punchy, projection-oriented)
  • Studio (balanced and easy-blowing, great for doubling or students)

Shipping is horrifically expensive, otherwise I’d have been tempted.

Where does it say anything about needing to wet them?

While I appreciate the significant discount, buying this reed from the US is just impractical.

I did order one from your website this week. I didn’t realize UPS shipping costs 2x the price of the reed till after I made the payment!! Oh well, I thought, my mistake. Hope the reed is indeed great.

Then I just received an email from UPS saying I’m being charged another $20 of import fees upon delivery. $5 due to tariffs (argh) plus $15 of broker fees! That’s robbery. You need to find a better carrier to ship to the US, please!

As far as I know, import charges are applied regardless of the courier.
It is not the courier who decides the import taxes...

Yeah, shipping/handling charges to the US are horrendous, on top o' the hefty unit cost. (Just today I inquired online about ordering from the manufacturer or from sax.co.uk. Yikes!) I'm dying to try these -- dig the flexy nuance of cane but dislike how cane reeds tend to dry out during somebody else's solo -- but regrettably must wait 'til Marca finds a distributor for US retailers. Anybody got inside info 'bout that?

Thanks, I was asking about US retail availability of Marca Unic synthetic reeds, not Marca reeds in general. Hopefully Weiner will soon carry the Unic line; currently (on 19 Sept 2025) it does not show up on their site.
