My favorite player on soprano and certainly as you have stated an unsung hero. My favorite recording is Lucky In Paris. Every cut is superb on this recording. The rendition of Have You Met Miss Jones and
How About You, Lucky plays fine soprano and I love his solo work. Tea For Two is on tenor and I am trying to transcribe it...Lucky Thompson...OHHH YEAH!

Lucky was also a great arranger/composer. He had a swing band in the late 40s/early 50s that played dances at the Savoy. He also had an octet in Europe for a while. Sort of a cross between Mary Lou Williams, Ernie Wilkins and Tad Dameron in style. Chris Byars has transcribed a pile of Lucky's tunes and has recorded some and performed them at Smalls.
