James told me how much he loves your necks...... VERY IMPRESSED!!!
Those two alto clips he is using his 10MFAN Showboat alto mouthpiece, and he told me he loved the combination of horn, neck, and Mpc. (Check out the Low A Mark VI alto there).
He is killing it on the tenor clip too. Such an amazing player and sweet person.

Players at this level only use the gear that helps them sound their best.

You're making wonderful products and you should be very proud of your hard work!!!

Hi there,
I had pleasure meeting your father in his workshop in Athens in 2006.He adjusted one of his necks for my B&S alto.Although I rarely play it these days ' cause my main horn for the past 10-11 years has been and steel is Selma Mark VI I enjoy it very much everytime I pick it up.It has larger bore and would not fit Selmer.
I also purchased curved barrel for my clarinette.This one gets it's faire share of playing time.The ligature though broke ( off course it had to be matching wooden ligature).

It does not seem to be working though. You may wanna give them a call or pay a visit. That's how I got my products and had good chance to talk to guys. There father sadly is no longer around. I hope their business is all right. They were Yanagisawa and Muramatsu Flutes dealers at the time.

How does a wood neck sound different? Wouldn't it?

 

I have one and like it a lot. It does sound and respond differently than my mark 6 neck. I'm sure it has more to do with the internal dimensions than the material. I switch back and forth between my two necks purely for the heck of it, because I like them both.

If I can find time, maybe I'll do a quick A/B vid for you.

 

@PCorneliusJazz Thanks! I have read there are differences in sound among entirely metal saxes (thickness, lacquered or unlacquered, brass or silver etc.), so it stands to reason (doesn't it?) that a wood neck would change sound.

I would very much appreciate your video, and a fuller description of the difference you have detected if you are so inclined. Thanks again!

 

It is counter-intuitive, but whatever the sound differences, it isn't due to the material but to the shape and proportions. Even Adolphe Sax himself was aware of this fact, possibly was even the one to discover it. Unlike a violin or guitar, the vibrations of the sax itself are inaudible compared to the vibrations of the air column inside.

Here's a quick demo. apologies for the disheveled appearance and also not being warmed up. My son and I both have a massive killer cold (not COVID) and this is the extent of my playing for the day.

horn is Selmer Mk6 63,xxx, mouthpiece is Yanagisawa rubber 7, lig is Forestone gold plated. Reed is Java green 3.5. Glasses are RLP (lol)

I find the wood neck has a slightly more immediate response, and is missing a bit of the "fuzz" and "buzz" of the higher overtones. Also the intonation is a little more wiry up top. but the altissimo screams. Again, I'm not sure how much of this is due to internal dimensions vs. material.

But those differences are within the ballpark of the variance you'd get from Reed to Reed sometimes. So overall it doesn't really change my sound. I don't think. ?‍♂

It is a high quality product, though, and I recommend it if you're looking for a new neck.

I could tell a difference, but it is impossible for me to weigh how much was the neck itself and how much was your very evident (and lyrical) enjoyment of it. You have persuaded me to keep those in mind.

I had a Borgani Jubilee alto fitted with three different necks - Borgani silver, Gloger silver, and Paraschos. I preferred the vibrance present in the two silver necks. The Paraschos was good, but not as versatile as the other two.
