Who is the audience? I'm a part of the audience and I don't feel alone. That's enough for this fella.

I actually don't mind that it's not a popular form. I like the intimacy of the small room, I like feeling a part of something that isn't being made for mass consumption like so much else today and I love the passion I see of the people involved in making it.

I go to hear jazz or "jazz" (not approved by gatekeepers) as often as I can. I'm elated to see people who are 19 in the audience along with people who are 80. I like the inclusivity. And if I like it I stay. Some nights I don't like what I hear and I leave.

I prefer hearing new music since I compose as well. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the old. What's not to love about the old sounds?

If you love to make jazz keep on doing it 1000% please. This world needs that love badly. If you reach a dozen people so be it. That's a beautiful thing.
