Anyone know of a free midi player that will allow the user to mute individual tracks, like I can in Sonar etc? I'm working on a project and need to include that as part of the deal.

I've been poking around sourceforge but those that look good are non-existent or only on linux, I would prefer it to be platrorm independant, or at least run on XP and Mac.

Thanks!!

melody assistant

www.myriad-online.com has a program that I've been using since 98 called melody assistant. it has unlimited free use but some functions dont work like copying. full function cost $20.
You can import midi files with lots of instruments and mute individual tracks - slow down tracks (which is really useful for learning finger busters).

Years ago I downloaded the PATA workbook when it came with midi files of all the exercises. You can import the midi file and it will print out the music accurately and you can play along with it.

If you want to spend some money "Print Music" from Finale will do the same thing - translate and print the music from the midi and play it. you can use the alto sax sound which sounds very classical sax.

Myriad program also has various instruments - the best being the piano
Both programs allow you to tweak the rhythm from straight eighths to a jazz feel.
