Hi,

Do you use same tip opening for yout bari sax than for your tenor or is it better to use lower tip opening?

Thanks in advance for your advice

There is no rule. I have used big baritone as well as tenor pieces. In fact, my current soprano is a .090. The tenor is a .120 and so is the bari, but I have used a 130 on bari. You have to find the baritone mouthpiece that suits you regardless of facing.

That's true, but the reed and facing are wider already. Also note, if tip opening does have anything to do with air flow, then likely you have to also reckon with the whole opening, from the tip to the other end of the facing. That too may be larger on a bari mouthpiece - and larger on some mouthpiece designs than others.

I use the samt tip opening on baritone as on tenor, but softer reeds on baritone.
(and I use the same reed on soprano and alto; Red Java #2.5)

Tenor
Mpc: Sugal KW II tip opening .110"
Reeds: Vandoren ZZ #3.5 or V16 #3

Baritone
Mpc: Vandoren V16 (modified ....) tip opening .110"
Reeds: Vandoren ZZ #2.5

My baritone and tenor on the same tune ;-)

Great playing on the video EgilF,by the way how's your daughter doing on the sax these days? I remember seeing a video of her in a concert a few years back, she was good then! I hope she's still playing.
Regards Rob.

I play a .120 on tenor, and a .110 on baritone.

I use a Meyer #8 on tenor and a #8 on baritone too. So I guess the bari facing is a bit more open in actual terms, but it's probably about equal in proportion to the size of the reed and length of the facing. In feel the two MPs are quite similar to me, which is something I like. I use very similar reed strength on both as well.

OP, if your question is aimed at getting a recommendation because you are starting out on baritone after playing tenor for a while, I would suggest getting the baritone version of your favorite easy to play tenor MP and starting with that.
