I currently have this stand:
http://www.fluteworld.com/index.php?action=prod&wart=51205

Which is a very nice portable stand and has worked perfectly for me, until now. I need a stand for my alto flute, but they are very expensive, and i would rather just get a peg for my current stand, but hercules does not sell an alto peg... :(

Does anybody know if there are any other alto pegs that are compatible with my current stand?

thank you,

..thats about the best advice you can get....ive been incredibly impressed by hercules products, but an alto flute peg is pushing your luck!

Take your Hercules flute peg and cut a piece of 1/2' ID white pvc pipe that is just big enough to slide over the Hercules peg. This will make the peg the right thickness for the alto flute. You can leave the pointed part sticking out and taper the edge of the PVC pipe so the alto flute won't catch on the flat spot. I did this to my Belmonte peg and it worked great. The white PVC also makes the peg easy to see in darker situations.

Good to know the actual part number. I'd recommend sourcing it from another dealer though. I've seen a lot of comments on guitar boards that I participate in regarding poor service from the store you suggest.

You can make one very simply out of one of the Hercules trumpet stands with the smaller foam ball on top. Just remove the bell rest (very easy to do), and slide about 4 or 5 garden hose rubber washers about midway on the post, replace the bell rest so it is holding the washers in place. It works great.

I found that Belmonte threads worked with my Hercules sax stand, so you might check to see if they make an alto peg. Hamilton threads don't fit, however, and I use a four-peg woodwind stand often enough that I just keep a separate one.

re: alto flute peg for hercules stand? [also: peg interoperability]

Thanks for this information. I've been trying to determine if Belmonte stands were interoperable with Hercules pegs (and vice versa) and haven't discovered relevant information anywhere else. It seems that they are.

Since I have resurected an old thread, allow me to note a couple things:

1) Herules model DS562B is an alto flute stand, not an alto flute peg, though it does have an open socket which can be filled with a peg (for flute, piccolo, clarinet, or presumably even soprano sax or trumpet). I think the idea is that a peg for alto flute wouldn't be stable enough, though if that's the case I'm not sure why this isn't a problem for soprano sax.

2) It is true that Hamilton pegs are threaded differently, but they sell an adapter kit: model KB7922. From what I can tell (I'm guessing) this kit allows other pegs to work with Hamilton "SystemX" stands, but does not allow Hamilton pegs to work with other stands.

I have the Hercules Alto Flute peg/stand. I can tell you that the alto peg will only fit that stand as the bolt is bigger for some reason. However, the alto flute stand has holes for 3 other pegs such as flute, clarinet, pic, oboe, etc.

Go to Home Depot or a hardware store and buy some dowling rod the size of the inner diameter of the alto. Cut it to fit and screw it to your stand.
I did like Bruce suggested and built my own alto and bassflute pegs like this for the normal Hercules flute/clarinet stand. Worked well, but I'm not totally convinced, because those long tubes are not centered in the middle. It works, but I'm not shure wether I would play a gig with it. It's not super stable. Perhaps I buy the alto stand, too.
