I recently pulled my old Alto Bundy II(SN: 771599) out of my grandmother's basement(been there for 18 years) and have decided to re-pad it myself just for the fun of it.

I measured the ID of each cup and below is what I came up with. Do the measurements look close?

2 - 9.5 mm
1 - 14.5 mm
2 - 16.5 mm
3 - 18.5 mm
1 - 23.0 mm
3 - 25.0 mm
3 - 27.0 mm
1 - 30.0 mm
2 - 33.5 mm
2 - 38.0 mm
2 - 41.0 mm
2 - 45.5 mm

Thanks,
Kenny

What did you use to measure the pad cups? I typically use calipers. If you did an accurate job of measuring the cup sizes the information you have for ordering the right pad sizes is better than anything anybody here will have to offer.

Make sure your measurements are accurate before you place the order for your pads.

Repadding a saxophone well, requires a certain level of knowledge and skill in instrument repair. If your level of skill is relatively low then you will probably learn a lot in your efforts.

Good luck

Also be aware that some pads out there are sized by the cardboard backing instead of the total diameter of the pad. After the felt and leather go over the cardboard, the pad is actually larger than the size specified. I've had mega-trouble ordering pad sets from Ferrees and to some extent Prestini. I've never had a problem with pads from MusicMedic. Curt's pads seem to be very accurately measured.

You should probably take at least a couple of readings with dial calipers (front to back and side to side) since the cups are not always perfectly round. That's just one of the problems that should be corrected before starting.

Also, if this is your first repad, you may find it difficult getting satisfactory results. It often takes doing it a few times to find the methods that work for you.

Stencilman: thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.

Kenny, measuring is always the way to go and when in doubt, go with your measurements. That being said, your sizes look good. Double check the 41mm to be sure that it's not 41.5mm and double check the 33.5 to be sure it's not a 34mm. Again, go with your measurements but check those out.

Good Luck!
