Looks like someone bought it, played it a handful of times, and put it in the closet. I'd buy it. The first generation YTS-62's were built well, and play great. If it's a great deal, buy it, play it. Since it's been sitting awhile I'd take it to a tech to have it looked over, oiled, adjusted if needed. Good luck on your purchase!

 

I haven't ever seen a knock-off trying to copy the purple logo so I'm pretty sure it's real. One of these purple logo 62's in this sort of condition is probably very desirable as they have had a rebirth of popularity over the last several years so I'd buy it as well if the asking price is not ridiculous.

 

How about contacting Yamahas european division? I think the american divison looks up serial numbers upon request, maybe the european one does as well.

 

That is a genuine Yamaha serial number, but a very recent one.

Either someone put a 1980s purple-logo bell on a current 62 body, or this is a scam and the picture of the serial is of a different instrument. I'm guessing the latter.

 

The photo of the serial number does seem to be from a different instrument, especially as the needle spring is clearly blue steel, whereas the original would have been stainless steel with a blunt end. But why would anyone do this ! ?

 

Maybe to lend credibility to a fake ad, where he´s not actually in possession of the horn?
Or it could be (but probably not) a simple mistake.
But if it seems too good to be true...

 

I call it a fake. All photos are blurry except the one with SN. On the photo with SN, the color of the lacquer does not match the color on all other photos.

That, or the seller tried, unsuccessfully, to change the way he always operated.

 

This is fake serial number, Yamaha SN starts with a letter is for new generation instrument only.
