Why "buy the best sax you can afford" but not "buy the best mouthpiece you can buy"

You raise some good points, snaz. I think it comes down to the fear that a cheaper horn is more likely to be harder to keep in regulation, which not only hinders progress, but ends up costing more time and money in repairs. Then again, a really good mouthpiece on a Yamaha 23 will go a long way.
