I've noticed that the best math and science teachers at my school are also great musicians, whether it's singing, jazz, or keyboard. Are there similar experiences out there? What is or was your strongest subject in school?
Actually, I've been having a real desire to learn Latin lately. It's the basis of so many other languages, I'd like to know it. I remember my Mom saying she took it in High School. Our HS was lucky to have Spanish and French.saxamaphonegirl said:latin was my strongest subject, second to all my music theory and appreciation classes.
i don't know why, but latin was so easy and kind of fun. ( i bet that ranks me on the geek-o-meter)
i got a lot of requests to read the latin on U.S. coins, etc.
E pluribus unum. Many become one.
or something to that extent.
One time, I actually ran across an online Latin tutor site. I may try to hunt that up again.Mel said:And I'd love to learn Latin too!
you are not alone in that. i am good in math and science( math teacher was a guitarist, science was a drummer) and foreign languages (also a guitarist). but im a latin geek it was always more fun than any other subject for me. my problem was in 5years i had 8 latin teachers. had 2 last year and the second year i had 3. so that was really bad for me, but oh well. and we had a tendency for years too, bad, good, bad, good good, then badand good second term.saxamaphonegirl said:latin was my strongest subject, second to all my music theory and appreciation classes.

I guess I've done both--writing math contests and writing charts during math. I'm not sure about the rigid part though. For me personally, it may be true--being a beginner, my improv skills are as good as a match in a storm (this is partly where the "rigid" part comes in), but when it comes to reading music and playing written pieces (classically trained), I can hold my ground. But if I look beyond myself, I see plenty of people who are gifted in the math/sciences and are also phenomenal musicians. *drooling with admiration*Vortex said:From my experience those who are good at math have been really "rigid" musicians, whereas guys like me who wrote charts during math classes are more fluid and just "get it".
:lol:Ironically in the 10th grade I took one of those b/s "career choice" tests and it said that my math skills weren't good enough to be a musician

How dumb is that!
