I think you were right to choose the 73k.
I didn't think I was going to hear much difference, but there seems does seem to be something there...

Thanks. I do prefer the 73xxx but for quite a few years I played on the 105xxx and it's a great horn.

 

It seems to me that the 73K horns sounds more open and crisp. The other horn sounded a little stuffy in comparison and it seemed like it has less head-room before it breaks up. Are you sure the 105xxx is leak-free?

 

I just had it gone over so it's playing well. I'm now more used to playing on the 73xxx so I think if I sat with the 105xxx longer I would start to get a better feel for it.
The 73xxx is a more flexible horn in terms of tone , with the 105xxx being more focused or defined and perhaps more metallic in a way.
The105xxx is a great sax but I'm not as familiar with it as when I played on it exclusively. However the 73xxx is killer!

The 73xxx sounds soooooo good! The 105xxx paled in comparison. But then again like you said, you've got the 73xxx dialed in lately instead of the 105xxx.

 

Hey I agree the 73xxx is really an amazing sax. It's got so much going on. it's really all about that last 5% of tone and texture and having owned a lot of different tenors including lots of VI's over many years I have to say that the 73xxxx is the best one I've had.
