I have a friend that has been dealing, trading, buying, and selling, with Paul Maslin for years. His website is one of my first destinations when looking for a new horn. In comparison with other good shops on the 'net, his prices are very favorable to the buyer and his horns are very well represented.

I do not hesitate to recommend PM Woodwind.

Thanks for the quick response! You have no idea how happy I am right now! I'm going to a pro tech today and I'm going to see if he has either of those models so I can try them out.

I will add my commendations on PM Woodwind and Paul Maslin. I don't buy very many saxophones, but I was well satisfied. I flew in to Chicago, spent several hours playing instruments, then had my choice shipped to me; everything went as hoped and I got a reasonable price.

 

Yeah just a fantastic seller and shop, I've made many online transactions and been to the shop once and they've all went very smoothly. And the 6m or zephyrs are fantastic choices, you won't have trouble finding a great one, especially at PM. Good luck with your search!

 

Be aware that trying out horns other than the one you want is not a reliable way to make a decision. Saxophones vary from horn to horn. So, you locate a 6M locally and like it, then order a 6M from far away. Be prepared for a disappointment. Oh, it could work out and if you are financially able to take a hit like that, then do so. But be forewarned.

I agree that turf3 did the best thing possible - no contest.

Another twist of trying one locally is that you may try one in poor repair and bad adjustment that turns you off the entire possibility of playing a good vintage horn.

If you do buy online, go with a shop that has a good customer-friendly policy. Not all 'net dealers are equal in this regard.

I've known Paul for 25 years as my repairman, he's a great person to buy a vintage sax from. You won't find anyone more knowledgable, fair in his pricing and friendly.

Ditto on all the positive comments about Paul and his shop. One of my biggest regrets about moving from Chicago last year was not having him readily available for repairs. I did haul my bari sax up there a couple of weeks ago for a tune up while visiting family & friends.

 

Bought a top hat and cane tenor from Paul. He is first class all the way. Highly recommended.

Ordered a vintage mouthpiece from PM over the phone from Eli on March 21, by 27th it hadn't arrived. I called Eli back, "no record of it being sent out will check". It's the 31st...no mouthpiece yet...I inquired , it's a reputible shop, must be an explanation, spoke w/ Dave. Well, " no postal record of it , it might turn up, offer of cash back, or an equivalent mouthpiece....?!?!#.....perhaps it's the postal service.????, we are waiting till Monday ,perhaps it will turn up over the weekend. I'm glad it wasn't a sax.

 

That's too bad. An advantage of purchasing thru Amazon or Ebay, is Buyer Protection. They WILL get your stuff or money back. But I really want the small stores to work...

 

Simply put, Paul Maslin is the BEST! He is the only guy in my opinion. He is an honest, straight shooter who wants the best for everyone of his customers. Happy I have known him as a friend and repair person for the past 25 years! I get everything from him, without hesitation
