I have seen mixed opinions about this mouthpiece when looking at different posts, however I would like to put in my own thoughts and feelings. I stopped in at the Windy City during break, going to PM Woodwinds to try out alto mouthpieces. I tried out a vintage Meyer, new Meyer, Syos, D'Addario, Ernie Northway, and other such mouthpieces (cannot remember them all). However, the winner was the Jody Jazz HR* When compared to every other mouthpiece it had better altissimo, better pop in the upper register, and a thick bold low register. All in all, it seemed to have more body and character than even the vintage Meyer, which was to say the least surprising. It is very reed friendly, and I have enjoyed many hours transcribing over the last few days (Sonny Stitt - Lester Leaps In + Surfin, as well as Hank Mobley's Dig Dis). Could not be more pleased with the mouthpiece. I use a Selmer Pro Action series II, D'addario Jazz Select 3s/m's.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with this piece.
Thanks for your time,
