Are you a "cat" person...or a "dog" person??

Inspired by a funny discussion with the band and some other musicians...

about sax players being "low maintenance"...and obviously having cats as pets.
Then someone said we don't have any friends and obviously need a dog's companionship.
AND yet another said we are too lazy to have any pet??
Then it went to sax players liking whatever pet the GIRL-AT-THE-TIME has.....and from there it all went down hill.

So how about it.....Do you have cats....dogs.....spiders....other???

AND just for fun....please offer a little of "WHY"......

OR....do your pets like your playin' ?

Me....Definitely CATS.

Mine loves my playin'....I can tell because he yowls his head off at me when I play....
OBVIOUSLY HE'S JAMMIN' WITH ME.....;)

1. Self-cleaning
2. Makes a relaxing purring sound.
3. Small enough to push off the bed/chair/counter-top.
4. Always look like they "know what's goin' on..even if they don't"
5. I like the meow sound better than the woof sound.

...and there's more....but the philosophy of it could run long....:D

I'm a cat person...mostly. I love pheasant hunting so a dog is a must, but dogs are way high maintenance! Cats...feed 'em twice a day and leave 'em alone. If they want petted, they come up to you and "cuddle". If they want to play, they initiate it. If they want to sleep,....

Stroke a cat and sleep with a dog. What else would a workin' sax player do?

...and keep your python in check.

Me, I like all animals, from the tiniest to the largest, from the tamest to the most vicious. But, after a few years without a pet, I've recently got a kitten - who is a little monster!!!!

I remember one of our cats years ago, used to hide under my bed but she'd run out of the rrom as fast as she could when I started playing my alto - everyone's a critic! :protest:

I'm with Dirk--I love them all. I have had both dogs and cats in residence. (zoning prohibited goats, llamas, etc.) I lost my beloved English mastiff a few years ago--(he didn't like the sax, however,--I knew his hearing was failing when he began to stay in the room with me while I practiced), and my current living arrangement and lifestyle would not be fair to a dog, but I have two rescue cats in residence--Dinah (aka Rotunda--she hasn't mastered an ad lib feeding schedule)---and Gabriella(aka Gabby--she's not very angelic, and she talks a lot).

I love cats and quite like dogs, but recently discovered (after my first experience of anaphylaxis) I am really rather allergic to both. Quite upset about that - I always promised myself I'd get a cat when I finally settled down...
I think some people who are allergic to cats and/or dogs can get the types with short hair or no hair - it could be allergens contained in a pet's fur causing you to be allergic.

I guess for some people - the specialist who I saw who did all the skin tests and blood tests on me said it's mainly the skin they shed (there is a protein in it that causes the reaction) so the length of hair makes little difference. I had often wondered why I become a sneezing, streaming, itchy, ill mess whenever I visited my parents: they have four cats now, acquired after I moved out. Combine the cat dander with house dust mites (and pollen, and nuts, and... and...) and I'm toast... Still, I have just found a 'conditioning cream' which you can put on cats (without bathing, thankfully!) to reduce the amount of skin they shed. Might be hope yet... :|

Still think of myself as a cat person though. ;)

Yeah, CATS all the way. I love 'em because they're cool, dig the "creature comforts," are low maintenance, but still enjoy your company and petting (most of the time), and on top of all that they really haven't lost their wildness. They are domestic and wild animals at the same time, unlike dogs, which are totally domesticated and dependent (but that may be what dog lovers appreciate). Cats are also beautiful and graceful, cool to look at. They can leap onto tall buildings in a single bound.

Cats are a good musician's animal because they don't require your undivided attention. I got to know and like cats because every girl friend I had while "growing up," had one or two cats. This has carried through to my present married status.

Great Responses Everyone!!...

I'm with most of you....I like all animals too.

We had a drummer in the band for a while, that absolutely HATED cats.

His complaint was "that they weren't very fun to play with....they always wanted to do their own thing..."

Yeah, well, ironically....we all said the same thing about HIM....

His name was John, and we called him "Johnney-one-style": LOUD & OBNOXIOUS !

...Nothing sounds smoother than a long "Def Leppard" drum solo in the middle of "Route 66", in a blues/jazz club....:x

I heart my cat head.

But she is a profound non-fan of the saxophone. The alto in particular leaves her ... unfulfilled.

We've got two cats here at home. Ones mine (was my sisters but Midnight (She's entirely black) comes to me more often than my sis), the other is my sister's (A really dark tabby named Stripes. He looks black unless you look closely and catch a glimpse of the reddish stripes he's got.) and I'm the one who feeds them. My neices clean the cat litter box. I can't be bothered when someone else can do it... (So yeah, I'm lazy) Anyway, Midnight likes to bug me when I'm at my computer desk... She's already messed my desk up several times. But she gets lots of love anyway...

My first cat as a kid was also entirely black. I guess I couldn't come up with a name for him, so my dad named him "Mr Tibbs". I always found the name pretty stupid, and just called him "Tibbs".

Mr Tibbs had already spent a few years "at the farm" before I finally "got it".:D

In a similar vein (kind of), I've often thought that "Thelonious" would be a good name for a monkey.
