Hi Pepper! Have you already taken a look at the "Cases" threads in the "Accesories" category? There's plenty of info there. You might want to start with:
- Urgent help!! I'm flying alone with soprano and tenor
- Flying with Tenor as hand-baggage: Hiscox or SKB?
- Flying Tenors Part III

I recently asked this question of Easyjet in UK. They said if it fits in the overhead locker then you can take it on board the plane.

I took my Tenor on a plane from Bristol to Belfast (one night gig at The Empire with The Rollin' Clones - Yeah right) and I had to check it in separately in the fragile section, it then went in the hold, but it was a small plane. No problems either end.

So ask the airline, to check.

I have always taken my tenor as hand luggage and never had a problem. They have but not me as i argued it was my hand luggage. Once i thought i was wrong then i thought about that then i realized i was right all along so it was classed as hand luggage!!!

wish is was that confident - surely the worst case scenario is they say that you either put it in the luggage hold (arrrghh!!!) or get off the plane. jesus, makes me wish i took up the harmonica instead.

When you tell them the horn is worth more then the plane they tend to let it on!!! Seriously i have only had one bad incident in over 100 flights when the woman said the flight attendants would refuse to let that large horn on (i thanked her but she said she was talking about the tenor sax in the shaped case ) and then marched me to the plane for the cabin stewards to confirm this. To her horror they said "no problem sir ,just put it in the overhead locker " to which she spun around and marched off in a rather peeeed off mood !!!

I just recently took my tenor on air france from boston to paris to munich as carry-on. It was in a selmer sax-pak case, kind of a hard shell gig bag. Didn't have any problems to or from europe.

Considering the size of some poeples carry-on luggage, the tenor is quite small!

A year or so ago there was a post here about someone who got an official letter from an FAA authority essentially saying that the airlines have to let you bring your horn on board and try to accomodate you.
There was copy of the letter available for downloading which I did download and have now misplaced....just wish I could find the crazy thing.

I think the letter is a must for you to have when traveling and dealing with US carriers in particular.
