I thought all of you might like to hear my opinions as I actually own a BetterSax Alto and Tenor. I find myself getting a little irritated by the "cheap Chinese bias and will never accept an opinion from someone who doesn't own the horn thy opine on." Both saxes are beautiful and the build quality is outstanding. Both of them are built like tanks.
I purchased the alto for the reduced price of $699. and am totally impressed. Have played much more expensive saxes from Selmer to Yani to Yamaha. This "beginners sax" equals them all, and surpasses some. Very easy blowing and the intonation is the best of any sax I have ever played. Tone is great and all the mouthpieces I have, from no or low baffle to high baffle, work great. I have gigged with it and get great comments.
Based on my experience with the alto, am still in the trial period for an open box tenor (in immaculate condition) that I am putting through its paces. Again, I have pieces from Syos high baffle to a D'Addario marble and they all sound great in their own way. The funny thing is, so far my favorite piece is an inexpensive Morgan Protone that works fantastic and is surprisingly versatile. Even with a hard reed, it plays effortlessly. It will probably be my number one, at least for now. The sax itself is outperforms anything I have played, and I don't exaggerate. I can go from Getz to Clarence Clemons and all in between. Upcoming gig will tell the ultimate story.
Both have such excellent intonation that I can actually forget about playing in tune and I can concentrate on the music. That is a major plus. (By the way, I get no endorsement or commissions from anybody connected to these saxes.)
Also my 1928 Conn New Wonder II tenor is now for sale.
