I just got one of these, because they touted that it had effects for saxophone. I can say that it's easy to use. Everything is can be changed with the effects. This though is the heads up.

It can be powered through the USB-C cable. Purchase a 9v power adapter for it. If you choose to power it with the USB-C cable, when I'm playing it through my garageband app on my macbook air, it will create an outside noise that's extremely annoying. I got a charger for it and it went away.

There are some great effects. I really like the growl on it. If you're a multiple instrument player like I am, it will help. I also play acoustic guitar and it the effects for that are just as great.

I own the A1XFour with expression pedal and have had it a few months. Besides the presets when you download Guitarlab to your PC and hook it up to update firmware there are several additional custom created effects for sax by other sax players added. There are quite a few that work well and sound good. I haven't spent anytime going beyond the pre-sets to tweak anything. I plan to use for more reverb or different eq. It seems to be durable and very solidly made and living close to salt water I welcome it being plastic resin over metal...the base is stainless steel or sheet metal though.

Hi, I play alto sax. What are some of the other pre set effects beside the growl, reverb, and delay? Thanks.

So it's an effects unit to use with acoustic instruments, but doesn't have an XLR input? Fail.

Zoom makes some good stuff, but it always seems to be one critical feature short of a great.

The A1X comes with a XLR adaptor, I can't understand why this is not built in. It is powered by two AA batteries and can provide 48V for mics needing this. I think its a bit of a faff to have to use this as presumably if you use a power adaptor you will still need to use batteries for the adaptor. I have used the A1X in Garageband with a USB connection with no problems with sound.

With Zoom making so many products that are for instruments using 1/4 " making one to be XLR exclusive would lower how many other musicians besides wind player. I'm sure especially guitarists that own other Zoom pedals would love it. Having the option to use the XLR or straight in 1/4" gives more adaptability to the potential owner. The adapter is also needed to transfer signal sent by microphone through the effects unit successfully.

How is the auto-wah on it? Thinking of Heavy Metal Bebop.
There are several patches/sounds that have a pretty good auto wah-wah effect. The wah-wah pedal (to me) doesn't seem to work as well as some others' I've seen that have a pedal board and have a dedicated wah-wah pedal. The pedal with the A1xFour is best for setting amount/level of that particular effect, to me not a great wah-wah pedal...but it is great to have for it's other functions. My appreciation for how great of a player Michael Brecker was is besides being a master of the saxophone I can only imagine how many hours he had spent working with effects to achieve the sounds he got with the effects. Not to mention his advancement of the EWI.
