Hi all,

Doing some desk research, I'm trying to understand what are the technical differences between the YTS-82Z 02 and the 03. I read a couple of dealer descriptions but I can't find any differences.

Could someone summarize in few words.

Thanks!

There is no 3rd gen Z. They made the YTS-82Z ASP Atelier. It's a different horn and not a 3rd gen. It's really not gone over that well and I heard they are discontinued. Before you settle on a 82Z you should probably try the 875EX which IMO is a nicer horn. I've had both.

You probably mean differences between the 1 and the 2. These are actually spelled “i” and “ii”. (82Zii). As far as I can remember: plastic resonators versus metal resonators, one piece bell versus two piece bell, front F adjustment screw. The differences are pretty small. Yamaha uses lower-case letters for smaller improvements or changes. Larger design changes are indicated when Yamaha uses new model numbers. For example 52, 62, 82.

Hi all,

hereunder you'll find some links where the MK3 is advertised. Today I called a dealer which has both the "MK2" and the "MK3" in stock to ask about the differences. The answer: only the case is different ... wow, do we need a new series name for the case?

Cheers

I spoke to a representative at Yamaha USA, and he stated there is no generation three 82Z in the U.S. He said the Yamaha transitioned pads to some specialty pad type on their "Custom" horns, but everything else remains the same. Is this just an Australian thing or is the U.S. just delayed in the process--I don't know.

there aint no Australian thing - far from it - as stated, its just got different brand pads (Pizoni) so i reckon it shouldn't be worthy of calling it 3rd generation, i'm not sure either.
