YTS-21s were made right through the 1970s. To the best of my knowledge, no one has yet come up with a serial number list by which individual horns can be dated. No datable alterations to the design seem to have been made during their 10-year production run, either. It's a problem.
My friend livingthedream has a wide knowledge of Yamaha saxophones. Maybe he can help ?
I met saxophones with the following serial numbers:
YTS-21: 9137A - 14652A (for the American market), 3486 - 7155 (for the European market)
YTS-22: 1000 - 5093 (for the Japanese market)
Also, similar model YTS-22 could go under the name Nikkan. There were no differences at all.
all 1 series saxophones i have ever had have all had the purple logo or its been rubbed off.
i don't think there is much difference in prices with or without logo, but condition is important, and usually if the logo is missing, then the horn will be in worse condition to do with lacquer etc.
i have had a 61 tenor with the number 014904A and a 21 alto with number 018787.
