The share of folks that just no longer bother has really gone up. I keep asking myself is it that they just don't give a rat's arsse or what? So, to the poll. Being a little goodie-two-shoes, I use my turn signals even when pulling out of my garage.... just so you know where I'm coming from..... :D

As someone who commutes over an hour to work every day, I must say that people NOT using their signals is my biggest pet peve.

Especially if they're changing lanes and/or an 18-wheeler.

I believe that roundabouts are a relatively new introduction in Spain....... one would certainly think so by the lack of lane-discipline and signals.

The favoured trick here, especially with truckies, is to stay in the outside lane, with no signals, even when intending to take the last exit
I know that their turning-radius may require this on tight r'bouts, but a signal would help!

(For UK members, I lived 22 years in Milton Keynes....Roundabout City  ......., so I do know about them :D )

My wife, who is actually a very good driver, sometimes chooses not to signal when she's driving in a large city. Her argument is that since noone else does you immediately identify yourself as an "out of towner" if you do signal and people will cut you up even more.

It depends for me, if I use them or not. If I am on my phone and am changing lanes passing people, I tend to be lax about it. Espicially on the highway. Howevr more times then not I let the lights flash for about 10 seconds then hop on over.

If you signal when changing lanes, you just give 'em a chance to speed up and cut you off. :D

Unfortunately, that happens a lot around here. But I signal anyway.

I drive a black Expedition but you would would think it was a Stealth Bomber.
I drive with the headlights on all the time and signal every turn and lane change.

You forgot one choice
"I'm too freakin busy reading the paper, swerving in an out of lanes, going 90mph, drinking my triple caffeinated energy drink, while talking on the cellphone and doing my makeup while shaving and having an argument with the conservative talk radio host, to bother with the GD turn signal!"

It's interesting that 85% of our respondents insist they use turn signals. That is significantly greater than my estimate for the general public.

I am a habitual turn signal user. I often catch myself signalling the turn from my driveway into my garage.

The more we know about what the other guy is doing. the better. However we always have to keep in the back of our minds the fact that turn signal use may be inadvertent.

Consider the scenario where you are approaching a stop sign but there is no stop sign for opposite direction traffic. Under these circumstances, you may stop and begin to proceed just as an oncoming vehicle turns left in front of you without signalling. A dangerous possibility.

The bottom line: anticipate every possibility on the road.

You saw me driving, and didn't even honk and wave hello? ;)

couldn't see you under that hat!

actually there are a lot of retirement villages round these parts, and a lot of the residents should have given up driving long ago, but without good public transit they are kinda stuck. (think of the 80 year old woman who's husband always did the driving, he dies and she hasn't been behind the wheel in 60 years, but her license is still valid)... there is a saying, beware drivers with hats (it's usually the only thing you can see above the steering wheel.)

I'll be sure to wave next time. ;)

I use them every time. I'm just not the world's best driver (I like to hit non-moving, inanimate things like trees and fences . ) so I want everyone around me to know everything I intend to do.

An irritating practice here is for drivers to flip their turn signal as they are turning. I guess they think they're cool flipping the directional signal and turning the steering wheel at the same time. It's really stupid and it's really common.

Then there are the drivers in middle Georgia who do the opposite - drive for miles and miles down the road with the same turn signal on. :banghead:

Seriously, a good point. How many times have you been waiting to exit from a sidestreet, out onto a larger, busy street when the approaching car from the left (in the US) slows down with their signal on, indicating they are turning right, then change their mind and speed up just as you've decided that's your chance to go?

The poll setup only allows up to 10 choices. Perhaps I should've combined a few, as above, in consideration of all the multitaskers....
