Hello. I'm new to the saxophone although I'm not a new musician. I've been a guitarist for nearly 30 years, and I play a variety of instruments. I say this only to emphasize that I will definitely become a saxophonist. I'm making strides and I'm doing well with my lessons.

That having been said...I've borrowed an older sax from a friend who never learned to play. Unfortunately, it's not going to last very long and I need an upgrade (my teacher and local tech agree). I've narrowed it to 2 saxophones. I was hoping you guys could give me some direction.

The first one is a Yanigasawa 900 series. I'm not sure how old it is, but I think it's from the early '90's. It had a good bit of finish/lacquer gone, but the pads are in good shape. I can't play it in person before buying it, but there is a 30-day return policy. It's $1200.

The other is a Yamaha YAS-52. It's in mint condition, but I will buy as is...no return policy. It's $1000.

Which should I choose? What would you do?

Thank you for your help.
