Not sure on year, but I think late 80s based on some others first model of YAS-62. Private market appears to be selling for $1500-$1750

I'm not sure either, but I think I can see a blue-steel spring, which would mean that it isn't a Mk 1 and was made after 2000. A picture of the front of the neck brace would help. Does the crook have a model number on it?

Price depends on condition, but based on the one picture, it looks pretty good.

In any case, it's an excellent saxophone.

Well in my tired state, it appears I was looking at a lost of YAS-21/23 horns. Whoops! Althought i've also read that serials arent a good system not tracking manufacture date for Yamaha horns.

I would certainly expect later!

You might want to edit the title of your post ... others will jump in here (like I did) expecting it to be about a YSS (soprano sax) but what you have there is an Alto Sax YAS not YSS.
I took the liberty of editing the thread title.

The logo on the neck looks like one of the necks that came with a series II or III horn so I don't think that is a first series YAS-62. I think a YAS-62 is a very nice horn, they don't pull a ton of cash (the YSS-62 soprano is much harder to find and pulls a lot more than the alto) but I think they are one of the best horns out there. I'm one of the people that don't like the series II or III as much and I prefer the original version from the late 70's and 80's ... I think the one you show is a newer series based on the neck logo, the needle springs and the low C pad guard showing in your picture. I bet the Bb table key is the rocking type - the early ones didn't tilt. The early models had one long J-shaped key guard that covered Bb, B, C# C --- later models went to smaller guards.

If you email Yamaha, they will tell you the date of manufacture. I agree that $1750 appears to be the average price these days. Looks to be in great shape, so I'd start a couple hundred higher and see how it goes. Great horn. I played one for a while back in the 90's.
