What's up, everyone! So I found a Yamaha YAS-32 at a second-hand shop here in Japan (I was initially searching for a saxophone for my son). I honestly had never heard of it before...but apparently it is the same thing as the YAS-52. I found it interesting because the Yamaha markings were maroon-ish colored...almost like the purple label horns from a while ago.

I'm wondering if there is any correlation between the two (the "purple label" YAS-62 and this YAS-32)...

Anyway...I ended up buying it for $365. I need a few adjustments but I think it will be good for my 8th grader...

Side note: I also came across a Yamaha DX-7 synthesizer...I had to track one down for a recital I did over a decade ago for a tune called Shu Gath Manna by Steven Gallante. Check it out if you're into multiphonics and things of that nature :)

Regarding the markings, though this doesn't exactly answer your question, see the second post in this thread: https://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?26487-Any-opinions-on-YTS-32&highlight=yas-32

which states: "I think the 32's had reddish stenciled lettering rather than engraving for "Yamaha". The stenciled lettering itself was not as durable as engraving, but that's the only difference I am aware of."

I think this implies no real correlation, as it seems the standard for this model. But anything's possible.

Good stuff. I have a Yamaha V50 synth. FM synthesis can't be beat for some things.

Edit - Just checked out Steven Galante. Yup, classic bells, chimes and glassy polyphonic goodness that only a vintage Yamaha FM board can deliver.

Is there a correlation between the purple label 62, and your 32? Short answer is yes. Long answer is explained in the video below. Your son has a ton of horn, and you found it for a steal.

Hey, don't wanna derail this thread but researching Steven Gallante had led me to some great compositions for alto sax and electronic accompaniment.

Yeah, your two posts on this thread have absolutely nothing to do with the OP's original post. Here's a novel idea, why don't YOU start a thread on Steven Gallante's great compositions for alto sax and electronic accompaniment.
