Bought this on E-Bay, a Yamaha Custom 875 (original series) in silver plate with a custom purple body lacquer job. From a distance it looks pretty cool, but up close you can see splotches under the lacquer and it looks a little ratty so I'm going to strip the purple stuff and revive the silver plating underneath, assuming it's still there. Where ever the purple stuff is worn through it's bare brass, but the horn's been played a lot and the wear is on touchpoints, so I'm crossing my fingers that the silver is still there.

Upon further examination it looks like the silver underneath the purple is gone, so if I strip it I'll have a brass and silver sax.

Silver sonic yamaha anyone?
You know what? There's nothing more beautiful than beautiful music coming out of an ugly sax. That is in fact why Mark VI's are so popular. ;) Seriously though, you know what I'm talking about.

I got bored today at work during one of my breaks so I wiped down a portion of the sax with paint/epoxy stripper. The purple came off within seconds (sign of a cheap lacquer job!) and as I suspected, there is only brass underneath. I'm really excited about it, actually. The rest of the purple will be striped off tomorrow and I'll polish up the bell. When I have more time (and a back-up alto) I'm going to completely re-pad it with white roos and flat brass reso-tecs.

I'll post pictures after I get it cleaned up and back together, and I'll have a picture of the bare naked purple body in a little bit.
