I've tried many mouth pieces from very expensive super session F, to meyer 6, vandoren v16 (6), and soloist D. The super session was impossible to play in tune on this alto. It was my favorite mouthpiece when I had a selmer reference, but is just awful on the custom ex for me. The meyer and vandoren played in tune but didn't give any resistance in the response. The vintage soloist was the best out of these, having no intonation problems and a good response. Then I finally got my hands on a yamaha custom 7 alto mouthpiece. They are very hard to find. It plays perfectly in tune and gives a full sound and a nice even response from top to bottom. Definitely recommend trying it for custom ex owners if you can.

What's the chamber size/shape like on these? I've seen lots of the standard (plastic) series but I've never actually seen the custom in person.
The 4CM piece that came with my 875 (original, not EX) had a squarish chamber. It was smaller than the rubber 7* Link I had at the same time. IMO these are under-appreciated mouthpieces for classical playing...I actually like it better on tenor than the S-80 and smaller-tipped Vandorens.
