I am going to buy a new sax and these two are most likely be the ones il be considering as they are both in the upper end of my price range. I was wondering have many people tried them side by side, and wanted to know what you taught of them and which you prefered?
I know that which instrument will be best is very subjective and i will be trying both for myself (although not until the new year). In the meantime im just doing alot of research!

Any help would be great thanks!!

Hi edwardmcardle,

I had almost the same problem as you last month. I wanted to buy a new tenor. The YTS-62S and the T-902 were at the top of my budget. And I'm in Japan :)

You will find lots of comparisons between these horns in the forum with good points favoring both. Anyway, I'll give my 2 cents.

I would not say that one is better than other. Both are hi-quality pro horns. They are just different. For me, the yani sounds like a 50/60's horn. Darker and fatter. With a more pronounced shadow (compared to the 62, of course).

The 62, AFAIK, is an original, more modern, design from Yamaha. Its sound is brighter and more compact. Better defined attacks. Someone said that the low end is more "crispy". Also, some people in the forum would say that it is more flexible: it should be easier to put your sound in it (some people otherwise would call that lack of personality).

My choice was the 62. I fill more comfortable with it, both in tunning and playability. It's a very free-blowing horn. I'm very happy with it :D

Best regards.
