Hi Guys.
I am hoping I have posted this in the correct forum, if not I do apologise. I have played Clarinet for 30 yrs and I have decided to have a go on a Soprano Sax, (I did have a short few weeks on Alto Sax and didnt find it difficult on the fingering, but I just decided to sell it in 2008) so I went out to gear4music and bought myself a cheapy Sop so I could just get my fingering sorted, and to see if I like it, so the question is, I have ordered a Yamaha 4c mouthpiece brand new only £32 including postage, I thought that was a very good price, I have now been offered an almost new Yamaha 6c for £25, so what will a 6c give me that a 4c wont? and would i just be wasting £25 if i bought it.
Thank You

A wider opening.

Personally, since Yamaha mouthpieces are all over the place for short money and the 4C is probably the most standard beginners piece, I'd just stick with that. Changing from clarinet to soprano, you're going to have so much embouchure retraining to do, that you don't need equipment uncertainty added to the mix.

Hi tur3. Thank you. I will do that then and come back for more advice when I get sorted, I understand what you mean about the embouchure, I played Trumpet and Cornet for years, and when i went onto Clarinet all i could do was make it squeak and scream. I decided not to throw it in the bin but to persevere, 3 years later I was playing all the Acker Bilk stuff going, I suppose I am going to have the same trouble again, but as I am retired now, I have the time to do it, what would you advise on reeds, I will probably go for Rico but do i use 2 or 2.5, what do you recon. Cheers. Tankie1rtr
