Well I recently bought a mint Yamaha YTS 82Z silver plated from ebay for
$2000, which I thought was a great buy and I so love the horn. So I am
seriously thinking about going with a modern alto as well and have just about
the same budget $2000-2100 or so, anyway I have been able to play the
Z at a local music store (sam ash cherry hill) but have not been able to find
a series ii to play.

I was hoping some folks that have played both could give me a comparison of the
horns and if anyone in the Philly area has a series ii alto they wouldn't mind
letting me play I am sure I could return the favor in some way. I played a series
iii about a year ago briefly and really liked the sound and precision, well thanks
in advance for any and all help. Jay.

I've been playing my Series II alto for six years and I'm pretty pleased with it in both jazz and classical settings. Since I really the sound and feel of my 82z tenor, I decided to try an 82z on alto for a month. I LOVED the keywork and response, but decided against it after I heard a recording of myself on it. It sounded pretty anemic and less rich than my Series II. Maybe I should have tried a different neck or mouthpiece on it, but many people I know feel the same way about the 82z alto.

I'd be interested to try an 875ex alto, though.
