Hello, I grew up listening to this fantastic piano solo from the legendary album "Kind of blue" by Miles Davis, so I decided to play it on bari sax. Wynton Kelly 's solo is a perfect example of building ideas using "call and response" and connecting each phrase to the next one. It is a composition inside a composition. Transcribing from different instruments is a huge benefit to me. I feel that it opens new ideas to me. What do you think?

Thank you Nobby Keys. I am practicing hard this days, here in Italy we are locked into our houses for this tragic covid 19 situation....
In these days I have trascribed beautiful solos from Cannonball Adderley and Steve Grossman, and I am planning to upload videos and restart my Vlog in the next few weeks!

absolutely beautiful! Great solo and it's hard to believe that Kelly did this pretty much as a one off because it sounds so structured but he did apparently. You should definitely look into the Wes Montgomery/Jimmy Smith version of this tune as well; both of them solo brilliantly on it and Smith plays more of the single line style in this one.

@OhRightSF My horn is a silver plated '45 Conn12M with RTH. The mouthpiece is a vintage slant rubber Otto Link refaced to '115 (I don't know who reworked it...I bought it refaced). I use Vandoren blue box 3 reeds on it.
The recording set up is really cheap stuff more than 10 years old: Roland FA101 interface, Samplitude recording software and a M audio nova condenser mic. It is ridiculous compared to a modern set up like logic or pro tools with a powerful interface, but to my ears it plays...so I don't change it. If somebody ask me to record a track professionally I prefer booking a studio, but for this kind of videos it works!
The video camera is quite good, a canon eos reflex.

Thank you, this is a very difficult moment for everyone.
I have transcribed many solos in the last weeks..Mulligan, Hodges, Gordon...I want to play some Ronnie Cuber too. I am trying to see this period as an opportunity to practice and listen more and to pass more time with my daughter. I have some friend in New York, they are also in a bad situation. When this problem end and we will all experience a new joy in the music in our gigs. I hope that people apart from musicians will see how music is beautiful. Of course I hope that I won't have to sell my instruments...
