Is the art of reading gone?

" in October the company will begin moving jobs to another call center in Indianapolis"

They are just getting rid of the show room complex.......NOT closing their doors and going out of business.........

Granted. But that sends up major red flags in my book.
I am a glass half empty sort of fella however.

"Woodwind & Brasswind is closing its retail store, call center and warehouse."

The article isn't terribly clear if the business will be picked up elsewhere - but it's tough to do business without a warehouse. If Guitar Center is going to pick up the slack I hope the offerings are as good.

I'm guessing it is just a consolidation by Guitar Center. I thought they were associated with MusiciansFriend as well so I'm sure in some form they will be around...just not as WWBW. Sad to hear though...I bought several horns from them in the 90's and early 00's when it was still possible to talk to a woodwind specialist on the phone and get some sort of personal service.

I have to agree with saxhorn4...every time I check a price I am dumbfounded that they stayed in business this long...they are way overpriced and have never seemed to offer anything other than a big glossy catalog in return. Seems to me almost any other retailer is a better option.

WWBW was my ONLY option when I lived in Guam. In the 80s, when I lived in San Diego, they still beat the local guys. But, in the late 90s, and 2000s, they did start to go down hill big time! Lately, all my big purchases (saxes and mouthpieces) have all been e-bay or custom mouthpiece makers anyway.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for when you try to advertise for free.
Exactly what I was thinking. A shameful plug (however enticing) is just that.
Sorry we didn't all bolt upright in amazement with the press release there.

I do however agree with him on the bloated prices, and I'll add shaky service when ordering by mail too.

I got a great deal on a sax through them saved over 1500 dollars so they were nice to me :)

i believe almost all shipping is now done from Musician's Friend's 700.000 sq. ft., recently built Kansas City distribution center. I've heard a rumor they are considering an expansion of that warehouse.

Interesting. I'm beginning to wonder is it's all related to the decline of Notre Dame football.

Received an email yesterday that the Woodwind and Brasswind is closing the retail shop on 30 September 2011. The email was from a manager and not the owners. I guess Dennis Bamber is no longer at WWBW. I discovered that he is at L.A Sax.

I give the place six months before they are gone completely, personally.
