Allo guys.
Would you sell,or trade your Yamaha 675 soprano for a P Mauriat 76 soprano??
Never played those horns, except a P Mauriat tenor a few years back.
Thanks,

No, not based on just comparing the brand names and models. Almost every saxophone is different from another one - so much depends on what it is you don't like about the 675 and what you are looking for that the 675 does not provide; vice-versa for the PM.

I've played a few PM sopranos (various models) and was not impressed, but then I haven't played EVERY PM soprano, so there could be that one great horn out there. Maybe you should buy a PM and keep the 675. Then, over the time that it takes to fully compare the two, move one on down the road. DAVE

Allo DAve
Yes I understand your point of view.
I did owned in the past a Mark VI,and even after an overhaul and full ajustments,it was a terrible horn,so then I simply chose to trade it in for that 675 which was nice, but after playing another VI a few years after,I had second thoughts on this, and as you mentioned, from one to another ,maybe just maybe there is always a great saxe in most brand ,but we have to try them and playtest them a lot!
I have never played yet any soprano by PM,but will soon when I get a chance.
Thanks for the replys guys.

We briefly owned a cream puff used 675! Did everything right(great reponse, ergos, intonation) but had a bland tone. We took it back to Sam Ash and got a Yanagisawa SC-991 at USA horn! The Yani has a beautiful crisp lively sound!

I play on an 875 right now and I like the ergos, intonation, response as well as tone, what kind of mouthpiece/ reed setup are/ were you playing? and did the 675 come with two necks?

You should just follow Dave's advice get the cash together, then test drive both daily, at home, studio work and live on stage where it really counts. Both, horns are pricey nowadays but the soprano is a very picky animal compared to the alto, tenor and bari. Many high end famous big 4 sopranos are not that good also. So, try it first of course if possible then decide without thinking of the famous name brand that we all think about sometimes. I tried a brand new yanagisawa 901 soprano a few weeks ago and it did'nt have what I felt was needed. It played in tune but was a little thin in the upper register and not as full as my modern borgani soprano and was not a one piece model. These play better in my opinion of course. Good luck and best wishes.

Eh, S901's are the one piece models. Did you maybe try an S991? To me the S991 sounds just like the Yamaha 875EX..kind of nasal(however you spell it) and wimpy.....give me a Black Nickel Keilwerth SX90 anytime...

Oops sorry. Yeah I think I got the model number wrong. I know it had the high f# and high g and two necks. Great looking horn and nice keywork but, I liked the modern borgani one piece for the reasons stated. Thanks again for the correction. Take care guys.
