I play on an 875 right now and I like the ergos, intonation, response as well as tone, what kind of mouthpiece/ reed setup are/ were you playing? and did the 675 come with two necks? We briefly owned a cream puff used 675! Did everything right(great reponse, ergos, intonation) but had a bland tone. We took it back to Sam Ash and got a Yanagisawa SC-991 at USA horn! The Yani has a beautiful crisp lively sound!
Eh, S901's are the one piece models. Did you maybe try an S991? To me the S991 sounds just like the Yamaha 875EX..kind of nasal(however you spell it) and wimpy.....give me a Black Nickel Keilwerth SX90 anytime...You should just follow Dave's advice get the cash together, then test drive both daily, at home, studio work and live on stage where it really counts. Both, horns are pricey nowadays but the soprano is a very picky animal compared to the alto, tenor and bari. Many high end famous big 4 sopranos are not that good also. So, try it first of course if possible then decide without thinking of the famous name brand that we all think about sometimes. I tried a brand new yanagisawa 901 soprano a few weeks ago and it did'nt have what I felt was needed. It played in tune but was a little thin in the upper register and not as full as my modern borgani soprano and was not a one piece model. These play better in my opinion of course. Good luck and best wishes.
