She probably listened to the wrong stuff and should have checked more ear-friendly styles like Swing and Mainstream (not starting somewhere after the 60's).

On the other hand, Jazz is not for all.

I played at an Indianapolis jazz club with a Motown cover band. I leaned over to the trumpet player and said, “This is probably the first time a women has smiled in here.”

It's a joke but the fact there is a diminishing audience for Jazz is no Joke. The 2 remaining large Jazz clubs in Boston had nothing booked this Summer. My local audiences are down to a handful with name cats.
