What am I missing?

http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-acheter...-Tenor-Selmer-Mark-VI-1962-W0QQAdIdZ324307497

At $3100 it should have been gone by now, the add was posted 4 days ago.

Never seen a VI with silver keys before.
Is it common to have the F# key in this vintage?

I contacted the seller, thinking that maybe it was an elderly person who wasn't aware of what they had, to tell him that it was easily worth twice the asking price.

He answered back that he knew that and that he was selling it for a friend who was tired of having it in his basement!!!!

Maybe its just, me but I like it when the color of the keys match the color of the horn, unless the horn is black lacquered. I don't really want a horn that has the look of a student horn, and thats what that particular mark vi looks like to me. Looks are a really big part of the horn, at least for me.

dunno, not many pictures with close up details or much information, it's not on ebay which gives people an idea of how reputable the seller is & some protection against fraud. I really don't know. there's something about it that sorta sends up a red flag but you can't quite put your finger on it.....at least for me anyway, and I probably couldn't be more wrong. lotsa of VI tenors on ebay too that aren't sellin. times are tough.

I know someone with nickle plated keys on his relacquered Mark VI. It plays very well indeed. If this listing was in Toronto I would be checking it out. It could be a great playing horn being a prime serial number even if you don't like the look. Nickle plating is very durable.

I think a lot of people get suspicious when the price is too low.

A student of mine bought a Selmer bass clarinet (low C) through craigslist in Vancouver for $1800 (easily worth $5000).
When I saw the listing I thought for sure it was a scam, I kept thinking «Why isn't someone in Vancouver buying this?»

What's a relacquered Mark VI worth these days? This one needs a new case, overhaul perhaps? It's looks like a deal none the less but depending on the condition (body straightness, possible neck pull down, dings, tone hole levels, previous buffing) it might not be a screaming deal.

If I were local it would be worth a trip to check it out for sure...
If I had the money I would definitely check it out.

Silver plated keys and rods are common on Paris assembled Mark V1's. Two of my horns are like this and it's always been my favourite finish with engraving.
OK, my BA alto and my SBA tenor are like that, but I had never seen a VI like that.

Bell key guard appears to be plated. I havent' seen that on a Selmer before.

I have an alto with silver plated keys. Seen a few tenors with them too. They did other options. I've seen a completely nickel plated alto. Looked a bit cheap but played great.
