I think Stitt was definitely going for a "win", since conventional wisdom/urban legend
has it that he was extremely competitive.
I wonder what Rollins' mindset was on those sessions re: playing w/ Stitt .
Since all I can do is speculate, I don't think he was that concerned about
being top dog, since he had already played alongside the likes of Bird and
Clifford Brown, and at furious uptempos w/ Max Roach putting the pots on.
Stitt played his a** off on that cut, but I think Newk has that extra something.
His phrasing and sense of swing has always been a benchmark for me.
Oh, I opted not to vote, but would probably have picked #3.
