I use the Winter hard shell contoured case for my SX90 tenor. I can throw it over my shoulder and have 2 free hands. One for my gig bag (contains music,flute,clar) and one for my mic stand. Does anyone know of a good hard shell case for soprano that can be used over the shoulder?

Aside from the Walt Johnson (I'll leave it to others to debate current quality issues, but my soprano case from ten years back is great), a repairman in New York, Mike Manning, makes cases using a Walt Johnson-like shell but with a different interior. It's not as heavy as the WJ because it's not as fully reinforced with metal (Mike can tell you more about his case concept, but it differs slightly from WJ in that the cases are meant to take the bumps and bangs of travel and daily city use, not to survive insanely rare scenarios such as a dump truck running over your horn), and it's about the best soprano case I've ever come across. Disregard the fact that the site only mentions alto and tenor cases; he does in fact make them for all horns. They're worth looking at.

The BAM case is to my recollection a soft shell case, but waterproof material. It is also quite large. Protec make a more compact and affordable soft shell case (about 30% of the BAM price). They also make a soft shell compact case for curvie sops. Most of the hard shell sop cases that are good are very expensive and also seem to be larger than necessary, though there are some cheap ones around - I wouldn't put my horns in them.

I have a Keilwerth soprano with the Winter case. My next purchase will be the BAM case after seeing it at music ed conference exhibit.

I don't recommend the Protec case for real protection - better than a soft gig bag but that's it. I bent keys on a sop in a Protec with just a ding on a metal banister.
