Hi guys

newbie here, I was chilling out on our local beach bar last week (I live in southern Spain) and heard this track - blew me away, is it an alto sax ? any idea who it is ?

track is apparently called track 1 : Supermen Lovers - starlight (luca agnelli sax mix)

could it be transcribed or would you just try to do it by ear ? (I'm not that good !)

cheers

If you want to learn something by ear, it helps to listen repeatedly to the tune in question. I've been spending time listening to Thelonious Monk lately and the tune "Nutty" is on two of the CD's that I have been constantly listening to. Just the other day when I took out my horn, I started playing the melody, from memory. A couple of notes were off, but I got it very quickly.

So, my advice is to listen and listen and listen, and try and find a few notes at first, maybe the longer pitches, or the cadences, then go back and fill in the passing tones and ornamentation.

There's worse ways to spend time with your horn than practicing, but few that will improve your skills.
