I watched the sleepwalker video on YouTube. Nice playing! Whose composition is that? I indeed hear some influence on certain inflexions but it's hard to tell because the sound on the video is not that great...

If I may give you an advice on your playing Matt, it could be nice if you used more silence in your playing, I think it would make your ideas jump right off the music.

Victor.

I'm not an authority by any means but though his sound is lighter Joshua Redman's playing does remind me of early Rollins. There's something about his phrasing, maybe?

There may be some Rollins in Redmans playing, but there's a lot of Gene Ammons. Guy can sound SOOOO much like Jug when he wants to. Listen to Jig-A-Jug (obvious) from Spirit of the Moment.

You're most likely absolutely spot on. I'm not terribly familiar with Ammons's playing ( a gap ;) ). I did find this clip on youtube with Redman quoting St Thomas and there are others where his blues playing sounds very Blue Seven influenced ( to me.) As far as the clip's concerned, i would suggest that the st thomas quote might suggest that he's playing tribute to Rollins through part of the solo (which is on rhythm changes)..maybe..(??). A lot of the lines and the general approach (to about half way through) seem very influenced by early Sonny. There is something in his actual tenor sound thatreminds me of rollins too. Maybe the flexibility?
