28 grand?!?!?! My opinion is that it's freaking gorgeous, probably completely unique, but utterly ridiculous in the price department. One could fill a small room with saxophones for that kind of cheddar.

I was indicating that I do understand the definition of "discretionary dollars"...but that in this case it seemed to contradict the idea of using "discretion"...(aka-prudence).

I would pay about $4,500 for it but not much more. I have a matching C Melody with a different engraving but it goes up the tube too.Maybe it is time to list the C melody....

I dont think its worth it. for 28 grand, You could get at least 5 selmers or yamahas, and for what they're worth, they would play well, maybe better than that con. They wont have a dragon, but lets be honest, the only people who would see the dragon are people within 5 feet of you. And besides, you could probably have a horn professionally engraved for cheaper than 28 grand.

Does more engraving = more attractive? I like dragons but think this is a little too much. And I doubt that it plays better than my '27 Conn Sop with the standard engraving. Then again, if you have money to throw away ..............but I'm in the 99% (the lower part of 99%).:badgrin:

I'm 99.9% sure it's the same one I saw on the Dr Rick's Village Flute and Sax Shop website 4 or 5 years ago (MOP on all keys, engraving everywhere).
If I remember correctly they were asking 10K.

But to be worth that kind of money the seller needs to provide documentation that Art really was the engraver. Otherwise it's just a test to learn if anyone will pay stupid money for an over-the-top sax.

If I remember correctly they were asking 10K.

If IO had 10K, I might be tempted to buy it, but not for more than that.

it is spectacular and value can only be judged by the one who offers the most. I see its value and unicity but no way I would spend that kind of money for it, so, it would have to be someone else's
