Another guess .. it might be one of the horns from the line that Al McLean was working on in that time period.
I don't know if they ever came into full production.
Jaleel is my teacher at school, I believe that's one of Al McLean's horns in that video. But in general and on records, he's been playing the same Mark VI alto since he was like 15. Though recently experimenting a Yamaha alto
Cool - yeah.. right .. that's kinda what I figured .
I knew he was primarily playing the VI but thought Al might've asked him to try the McLean horn to get his feedback on it, etc..
Thanks for your post .
Did Al just sort of give up on the idea of producing horns and went full time into restoration? Some of the horns he's been listing lately have been amazing looking.
Although I did see a True Tone listed for over 2K. That kind of irked me.
Man, I'm super interested now, I didn't know Al did repair work. I can tell that it's a modern horn. I know Jaleel plays a 6 normally, but this one.. I can't quite make out an insignia or inscription or anything to distinguish it. It's damn beautiful looking!
Rollins is a Chinese brand. They are a bit of a dodgy outfit that makes all kind of outrageous claims, like being a top French brand. I don't believe their marketing, but I have played the horns and they are quite good.

Hi Aquitania,
The horn is indeed a Rollins horn. I did the video trying out the horn with Al Mclean a while back.. I didn't know the company still exists. I do still play my Mark 6, but I have the horn here and pick it up from time to time. My set up has definitely gone through a few changes since then... I wonder how it'll sound now...
I honestly couldn't give you an opinion on the horn at the moment. I honestly haven't really played it since I got it almost 6 yrs ago. I can also say I'm very cautious with giving my opinion on setup. That's a very personal thing to me. I'd say try as many horns as you can and get the best one for you.
Thanks for reachin and thanks for satisfying my curiousity! I'm lifting you're stuff all the time!
Greeting from vietnam!
Daniel
