I went to the site and listed to some samples from "Live at the Blue Note".

Sounds like jazz to me, even some of the stuff that could be construed as "adult contemporary". I mean, Roy Hargrove is on the album. Yeah, it's jazz.

check out the cd he made when he was 18. if playing with brecker isn't good enough for you, listen to him play sweet georgia brown. it's like listening to a reincarnated oscar peterson if you ask me. it's jazz.

Oh yeah, he's good. Sounds more like a broadway tune though :D. But yeah, kid's got the hands.

Back to the original question, "what passes as "Jazz"? I think the general public classifies most instrumental acoustic music as jazz. Probably due in part to hearing the word "jazz" associated with artists who show up on smooth jazz radio, who have little or nothing to do with jazz.

'Jazz-pop' or smooth pop?

Gotta give the guy credit for his ability
and success. I wish him well, but I'd need
to hear some more to be a fan.
